Derek Kwik? Who is it? Just a banana I guess…
Remember couple years ago this name was on the “footprint” - a membership magazine from SPCA (Society Prevention of Cruelty Association). It said something like “support Derek Kwik to raise money for SPCA” saying that Derek will join a race and please support by donate something to Derek to finish every single stage. Driven by curiosity, did check on the race and found it was pretty fun race and looking forward someday there might be “Mr. J - the potato” etc.
It is a race where crossing deserts with virtually very limited support and etc. knowing Derek has trained with his backpack on (putting pounds of rice inside to stimulate the actually weight of his survival gears) and running from this to there including on treadmill and etc. for couple times a week, it last for almost a year before the race, Derek even named his backpack as “little Derek” which comes next to his girlfriend and his little dog. This year log on the same wed site again and found Derek had finished 4 desert races already and make his way to the post of Chief Operating Officer and still joining the race himself to raise money for SPCA and etc. Check out their info on www.racingtheplanet.com; a pretty interesting site and lots of interesting people joining the race for various reasons. By the way, almost half of the management team actually from Hong Kong. Ops, but none is actually a Hong Kong native. Hum…
